The purpose of this mobile application was to create a convenient way to share excess food from Bellevue College school events to other students and school employees. I was assigned on the mobile development team with my partner, Koyo.

I researched trendy food ordering apps such as Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub to familiarize myself with layouts. The biggest inspiration that contributed to the project was an app created by UCLA students called Bruin Bites which had a similar goal and purpose to my current project. The website for our project was already in development by the web design lead, Hannah. I took her designs in mind in order to create a mobile layout with Koyo.

The deadline for the project was to create a feasible mobile application design or minimum viable product (MVP) by December 2020. Hannah had already created some wireframes for the mobile application beforehand.

User Testing

Koyo and I collaborated to create a low fidelity design using Hannah's wireframes.

I developed the design further to create a high fidelity version using Figma's community resources. I really wanted to go for a modern and simplistic design with a good amount of white space.

User research was collected using data from a survey the project lead implemented.

It was found that most Bellevue College employees would be willing to use this application for its intended purpose. User testing was conducted with Bellevue College employees whenever available with both the website and mobile application. Koyo and

I any took in all feedback to improve the mobile layouts. A big issue was thinking about security and redundant or troll posts. All of the teams had discussed ways to combat said issues and my team designed accordingly.

The official project name was decided to be Bulldog Eats in accordance to Bellevue College's mascot. Koyo and Hannah created helpful graphics such as the logo and navigation menu icons to solidify the color scheme used for the overall brand design.

My team and I decided to use the bulldog mascot to create a playful image. The pastel and bright colors are light and attention grabbing. Soft rounded corners and shapes are used to convey an easygoing and fun mood. We wanted our app to be separate from the professional side of Bellevue College.

Final Product

Presentation

Self Reflection

In order to create the best feasible design for the mobile developers, I had to simplify the high fidelity features. Koyo had taken the revisions and worked on the final product in order for the project lead to present the whole project to Bellevue College staff.

This summertime project not only helped me familiarize myself more with Figma, but it was a learning experience working and communicating with non-designers. It was my first time getting to do user testing and has made me realize that as a UX researcher, it is important to be neutral towards the user. Although the presented idea wasn't completely finished and the team most likely will not pick it back up again due to conflicting academic schedules, I am still grateful for this experience.
